June - Getting Started
Ready to get started installing the June theme on your site? Below are the first steps you'll want to take before moving into theme installation and setup.
Setting up a Coming Soon Page
Regardless of whether you're starting your site from scratch or adding the theme to an existing blog, I recommend setting up a Coming Soon page so people can't access your site while you're working on installing your new theme. To do this, you'll want to install and activate the Coming Soon Page plugin.
Once you activate the plugin, it will likely redirect to the Settings page, where you can toggle the option to Enable Coming Soon Page.
Below that section, you can choose to add content to your Coming Soon page, like your logo or a message to your audience about your new design.
Once you're done setting up your page and the settings, you'll want to Save All Settings and then move on to installing your theme.
Install the Genesis Framework
If you don't already have the Genesis Framework installed on your site, you'll have to get it installed before installing the June child theme. You can purchase the theme here, if you haven't already, which will give you lifetime access to updates and customer support for 1 year.
Once you've purchased the theme, you'll go to Appearance > Themes, and click Add New at the top of the site.
You'll then select the Upload Theme option.
Click Choose File, and select the genesis ZIP file you downloaded when you purchased the Genesis Framework.
After Genesis is installed, you'll click Return to Themes Page to install the June theme.
Install the June theme
Repeating the steps above, you'll click to Upload Theme, and choose the cc-june.zip file that you download when you purchased the theme.
Once the theme is finished installing, you'll click to Activate the theme.
You'll then see a page that says Getting Started with June and a prompt to install the June Starter Pack. This pack includes the following items from the demo:
- Home page layout options
- About page template
- Instagram page template
- Plugins required to match the demo
- Demo widgets for the Sidebar and Footer
Because installing these things individually can be time consuming and often tricky for less tech-savvy people, I highly recommend installing the June Starter Pack - even if you already have a website setup.
If you choose not to install the June Starter Pack, the link will remain in your dashboard sidebar under Genesis > Child Theme Setup in case you want to install the pack later.
To install the pack, you'll simply click the Install Pack button.
When the pack is finished installing, you'll see a confirmation that all of the content was successfully installed. You'll be prompted to View or Edit your Home page.
From here, you can move on to setting up the theme as you'd like it to look and function on your site.
